Tom was born in The Netherlands and has been living and working in New Zealand since 2016. He feels both lucky and proud to have been trained at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, which is the Dutch main referral center for complex skin cancers. He completed both his dermatology and his Mohs surgery training in 2011 and has since performed thousands of (Mohs) surgeries. He is an accredited trainer for the European Society of Mohs Surgery and a member of the New Zealand Society of Mohs Surgery.
While Tom practices the full spectrum of dermatology, he has a sub-specialty interest in skin cancer. As part of this interest he also obtained a PhD on photodynamic therapy in 2014. He has authored over 50 scientific papers in medical journals and has given many lectures at national and international conferences.
Patients typically appreciate his kind, calm and friendly attitude, as well as his surgical skills. He aims to make any surgical procedure as comfortable as possible for the patient, while focusing on delivering the best outcome for them.
In his spare time he enjoys nature, connecting to other people and playing chess. He holds the title of International Master and has represented New Zealand at the Olympiad in Budapest in 2024.
