Veins Consultation & Mapping

A comprehensive veins consultation and mapping appointment is the first step in treating varicose veins.

Our team uses advanced ultrasound imaging to map your vein system, giving us a clear picture of the cause and extent of your vein issues. This allows us to create a tailored treatment plan that’s right for you.

The first step towards treating varicose veins with confidence

A comprehensive veins consultation and mapping appointment is the first step in helping you feel comfortable and confident in your legs again.

At Skin Institute, our specialist team uses advanced ultrasound imaging to carefully map your vein system, providing a clear understanding of the cause and extent of your vein concerns.

With this detailed insight, we create a personalised treatment plan tailored to you, focused on easing discomfort, supporting long-term vein health, and helping you get back to feeling like yourself.

What is a Veins Consultation & Mapping appointment?

A veins consultation and mapping appointment combines a full medical consultation with detailed ultrasound imaging of your veins. You will meet with one of our Specialist Veins Surgeons or Doctors who specialise in varicose vein treatments. They will take a detailed medical history, conduct a physical examination and assess whether treatment is required.

Ultrasound mapping is performed by a vascular sonographer to create a detailed map of your superficial and deep veins, helping identify the most appropriate treatment for your needs.

If any symptoms suggest a possible deep vein thrombosis, additional imaging of the deep veins may also be carried out.

FAQ

Is the consultation and mapping covered by health insurance?
Yes, most comprehensive policies (such as Southern Cross) cover the initial consultation and ultrasound mapping if you have symptoms (pain, heaviness, swelling). We are an Affiliated Provider and can often process the claim for you.
Why do I need an ultrasound map?
Visible varicose veins are often caused by "feeding" veins deep inside the leg that you cannot see. Ultrasound mapping allows us to identify these faulty valves accurately. Treating the source, not just the surface, prevents the veins from returning.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No, you do not need a GP referral to book a consultation with our Vein Specialists. You can book directly with us.
Is the ultrasound scan painful?
No. It is a non-invasive scan similar to those used in pregnancy. A sonographer runs a probe over your leg with some cool gel. There is no radiation and no needles involved in the mapping stage.
Will I get treatment on the same day?
No. The consultation is for diagnosis and planning. Once we have the map, we will discuss the best treatment (like EVA or Sclerotherapy) and book a separate appointment for the procedure to ensure proper preparation.
