Our Nurses Share Their Favourite Treatments

At Skin Institute Silverdale, our Appearance Medicine Nurses are passionate about helping patients look and feel their best. This month, Jane and Jenny are sharing their current favourite treatments, and a glimpse into what’s new in appearance medicine.

Jane’s Clinic Favourites

I’ve been part of the Skin Institute Silverdale team for eight months now, and I really enjoy working with our patients and the wider team. Before joining Skin Institute, I worked as a Clinical Specialist Trainer with Allergan Aesthetics, a role that took me all over New Zealand. After years of travelling, I’m delighted to now have a home base where I can focus on building strong relationships with my patients.

Jane’s Favourite Treatment Right Now

At the moment, my go-to treatment is a combination of Botox® and SkinVive by Juvederm®. Together, these treatments target expression lines while also improving skin quality, leaving you looking hydrated, refreshed and healthy.

The best part? Both can be done within the same appointment, making it an easy way to step into spring with a fresh, confident glow.

Jenny’s Favourite Treatments

When it comes to achieving the best results, I love combining treatments that deliver both immediate improvements and long-term benefits.

Short-term gains: Anti-wrinkle treatments, with small amounts of dermal filler to restore volume in the peri-oral area and mid-face.
Long-term results: Regular bio-remodelling treatments and skin boosters to rebuild the healthy tissue we naturally lose with age.

Lasers also play an important role in refining skin quality, and I often work with our experienced laser therapist, Courtney, to complement injectables with treatments that further enhance skin tone and texture.

Jenny: Looking Ahead in Appearance Medicine

With 18 years in appearance medicine nursing, I’ve seen trends come and go (including a few unusual fads). What excites me now is the shift towards regenerative treatments.

At this year’s New Zealand Society of Cosmetic Medicine conference, the focus was on treatments such as Profhilo®, Sunekos® and SkinVive. These treatments hydrate and stimulate the skin’s natural repair processes, slowing down the ageing journey rather than trying to halt it. By prioritising skin and tissue health, they offer a more natural and long-lasting approach to rejuvenation.

The key is timing and results can take up to three months to fully develop. So, if you’re preparing for a wedding, milestone birthday or special event, planning ahead is essential. In my experience, the results are absolutely worth the wait.
